Government to axe security industry authority

The announcement that the Security Industry Authority (SIA) may be axed due to a change of economic priorities by the Government has kicked up a bit of a storm within the Private Investigation Industry. Scrapping the SIA would mean an end to long-awaited licensing of the PI sector.

No sooner has the news broken and the Association of British Investigators (ABI) is proposing that they take over control of the regulation of the industry.

There are approximately 10,000 practicing PI’s in the UK and for any one Association to attempt to ‘control’ the whole profession would inevitably lead to elitism and division within the industry.

The World Association of Professional Investigators (WAPI) and the ABI have approximately the same amount of members, the majority of the 10,000 practising PIs have no allegiance to any professional private investigation association so for one association to ‘call the shots’ over the whole industry would be totally unacceptable.
